Nokia Messaging goes live - no longer nokia email

Nokia Messaging, Nokia’s new email app/service combo has just dropped out of Beta and into the land of reality. Now available to download, Nokia Messaging is still a trial service but the app is a far cry from its beta predecessor. Alongside improved navigation and better syncing performance - it now actually works - we get a host of new features. We’ve already downloaded and had a little play and can happily report, all they say is true. It’s rather lovely.

New features include the ability to sync multiple folders for the same IMAP account, flagged Gmail messages automatically become starred messages on your Gmail account and you can now have up to 10 email accounts.

It isn’t yet without it’s flaws though. Setting up our main account was a cinch and syncing worked quickly and effortlessly. Adding our Gmail account though resulted in a big fat zero messages, and no sign of it syncing anytime soon - this despite closing and restarting the app. Message delivery speed for our main account is properly fast though, in some cases picking up new messages faster than my Mac did. On the downside, sent messages arrive without a Reply To address, which is a bit of an oversight and something we expect to see rectified pretty sharpish.

All in all though, we’re thoroughly impressed. Eye over the foibles and what we have here is a proper class email service on our Nokias. Nice work oh people of messaging.

UPDATE: A few minutes after writing this, our Gmail account on Nokia Messaging was flooded with messages. Ignore the above, it just took a little longer than our main email account. No biggie, I think.
